3 homemade syrups for dry cough

When we talk about dry cough, we are referring to one that has no phlegm, i.e. that is not productive. It is a reaction that occurs when the body detects a foreign object in the throat or airways. In this way, that throat clearer works as a cleaner for the area.

However, If this occurs on a frequent basis, it is best to see a doctor to find out what could be causing it. Since it’s a common symptom, it’s important to know if it’s caused by an allergy, asthma, pneumonia, or other condition, in order to give it the most appropriate treatment.

In addition, you can resort to some home remedies, such as the ones we will share with you below, the basis of which is delicious and nourishing honey. Take note of the recipes!

  • ½ tablespoon (5 g) of anise.

  • Leave to cool and add the aniseed.
  • filter the liquid
  • Consume whenever you notice that dry cough is causing you discomfort.
  • Keep the remedy for a maximum of one week.

3. Cayenne, ginger and apple cider vinegar for dry cough

Other times we have talked about the ability of apple cider vinegar to eliminate infectious elements. The same happens with cayenne. Spicy products act with great force on them. This is why we offer you this particular homemade syrup.

  • 100 g of honey.
  • 1.5 g of ginger powder.
  • 10 g of apple compote.

  • Prepare the apple compote. Once ready, leave it to cool a bit in the fridge.
  • Add the tablespoons of cayenne pepper and turmeric powder to the container you’ve designated for storing the syrup.
  • Gradually add the honey and mix with a spoon to mix the ingredients.
  • Add a little water and the apple compote.
  • Mix everything again with a spoon and leave to macerate for at least a couple of days.
  • Take a teaspoon every time you feel discomfort from a dry cough.
  • Store the syrup for up to a week.

What should you keep in mind about these syrups?

These homemade syrups will help moisturize, soften, and soothe a sore throat caused by a cough. They provide temporary relief, which is also very useful in the case of minor discomfort. However, it should be remembered that they cannot “cure” the underlying cough problem on their own.

The ideal is to combine its use with good lifestyle habits and, of course, doctor’s recommendations. In this way it will be possible to appreciate the improvements.

On the other hand, if you still haven’t found the cause of your cough despite going to the consultation, think about whether there is any emotional factor that is affecting you. Some people somatize stressful situations and manifest it through a dry cough.

If you suspect that this is happening to you, we advise you to consult a psychologist and, as a complement, try the classic hot milk with honey (or golden milk). In addition to soothing your throat and giving you relief, it will help you rest better.
