You have to be careful with certain items which we can find practically in any home and which, however, can be toxic objects.

Toxic items in the house
1. Products made with particle wood
Why are products made from agglomerated wood dangerous? Chips that contain both wood and sawdust are usually glued together with urea-formaldehyde resins, i.e. with a type of poison that directly affects the respiratory tract and eyes.
It can also cause problems in animals. This risk will increase if the furniture is old, as new furniture is governed by more modern standards and not everyone uses these products.
What can you do?
- To find out if your furniture is safe, you will need to check the product certificates, based on European standards, the materials from which the wood is made, etc.

2. Carpets
Why do we put carpets on our toxic items list? Carpets have different types of adhesives and dyes. These products release volatile organic compounds that can cause everything from headaches to allergies to fatigue.
Carpet is particularly harmful because, unlike carpets, it covers the entire floor and adheres to it. This makes it even more difficult to get rid of dust mites which can cause allergies and asthma.
What can you do?
- If your carpet is very old, buy one made from natural, untreated materials.
- It is advisable to avoid large carpets, as they will be more difficult to clean.
3. Laser printers
Laser printers emit tiny particles formed by printing dust into the air. These particles enter the lungs and this can lead to a number of pulmonary and cardiovascular diseases.
What can you do?
- It is best to place the laser printer at home in a well-ventilated room.
4. Bottles
Baby bottles are usually made from polycarbonate. This type of plastic is made with a chemical known as bisphenol A (BPA).
- It is a type of plastic that is very similar in structure to estrogen and is known as a “hormone destroyer”. This plastic can cause a serious hormonal disorder in the child.
What can you do?
The best thing you can do is look for an alternative made from safe materials and check the labeling beforehand to see what’s in it.
5. Mattresses
Mattresses are also among the toxic objects in the house. But beware, not all mattresses, but those that have a high level of polybrominated diphenyl ether, a product whose exposure causes health problems.
- These damages include everything from brain disorders to a decrease in reproductive function and even thyroid problems.
- This material is especially dangerous for the little ones.
What can you do?
Old mattresses are the ones most likely to contain these substances. In case you haven’t changed your mattress for a while, it’s best to change it to one made with natural products.
6. Tupperware
Tuppers are usually made from plastic. That is to say, they are made from a material which itself contains numerous chemicals, such as phthalates.
This substance can affect the endocrine system, reproductive system and cause hypertension and insulin resistance.
What can you do?
- As much as possible, replace plastic tupperware with glass or ceramic containers. If not, choose polyethylene or polypropylene lunch boxes.
- Don’t forget that you should never microwave food inside a thin plastic container.
7. Fabric softener
Fabric softeners seem to make clothes softer, but they really do they’re coating them in a thin layer of toxic chemicals.

Although it is safe to use if you do not use more than necessary, it is best to avoid using it with children’s clothing.
You can always opt for a natural remedy to improve the smell of clothes.
